Has anyone had a methyl prednisolone infusion, and if so how was it, and how did you feel in the days after it? Any side effects?

Hi Heather - back in March I had 3 huge ones (1000mg each) on 3 consecutive days as emergency treatment for lupus nephritis. So here are my tips:

Don't expect to feel like brain of Britain in the immediate aftermath.

Do expect to be VERY ready for the next meal (whatever it is)

Don't look too closely in the mirror for a few months: moonface does go - but it takes longer than you think!

All in all it is a bit like a daily dose - but WRIT LARGE!

Thanks Maggie! I'm having two doses a day apart and I think each is 'only' 500mg! Having it because my lymphocytes are continually really low, no matter what med I'm on and even if off any strong meds. So they are doing the infusion to see if it is my lupus causing the low counts, or possibly a bone marrow issue (ie if they respond to the infusion then they believe it is the lupus causing it, in which case based on that and other symptoms will qualify for rituximab as nothing else has worked).

So far with the low oral doses I've been on (10mg a day) and depo injections I've avoided that moon face, so not something I'm looking forward to!! However will be good to get to the bottom of things and also be able to move forward with treatment...

Heather - I hadn't really had a fat face until the infusions (and then I was on 30mg daily afterwards). Now down to 7.5mg again and my face looks more or less normal - but we are more than 6 months on. The point is not to despair. It will go!

I have it two times.Once was 1000mg per day for three days.and second time was 500 mg for three days.Both time i had experience similar side effect i.e weight gain,miscle building around neck,bow and moon face

Hi - thanks for this. Sounds like the side effects are not something to look forward to! How did it make your symptoms though - did you feel a lot better and if so how long did it last?
