Can anyone tell me what constitutes a high anti d... - LUPUS UK
Can anyone tell me what constitutes a high anti ds dna count? Or what is a 'normal' level?I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Thanks
Glad you asked this question as I want to know too! I've never had my results, just 'positive' so am going to ask for printouts from Gp or rheumy. Hope someone out there can help!
I'd love to know too. When the rheumy talks about my condition being poorly controlled I never know how it's measured. My last bloods were stable yet I felt rubbish. It would be good to know the range. I hope someone knows!
If you are talking about double stranded dna I think it's under 30. When my daughter was diagnosed with sle hers waqs 300+!
Depends on the normal range at the particular laboratory. dsDNA is positive at over 15 at my lab. My dsDNA levels have been 75 and gone down to 45 after 2 years on Plaquenil. I believe 200 is extremely high for my lab.
But they should also look at other lab tests (ESR, complement, kidney function tests etc, etc), plus of course symptoms!!
Hi, I did some hunting to come up with a definitive answer. When I was first diagnosed I was told that the presence of any ds DNA was clinically significant. Just found an article from Washington State University, Continuing Medical Education (US) which addresses ds DNA values. This article suggests that the presence of ds DNA (refers to it as nDNA) is like a red flag; once ds DNA is detected, doctors look for other signs of disease. Fluctuation in ds DNA levels is often a barometer of disease activity. You can find the article at:
faculty.washington.edu/andc.... Look under the sub heading Antibodies to DNA. This article is pretty technical, but I've read worse. Good Luck!
Thanks so much to all who answered! The information out there can really confuse me, so you have all added a bit of clarity . I will have a go at the site you suggest, lupuswriter, thank you.
