Not sure about free if you're not in Scotland but can you pay a monthly flat fee which should make it a lot cheaper, your local chemist should have details Angie :)

You only get them free if your over sixty or are claiming benefits excluding DLA. You can get a card which is something like £30.00, and lasts for three months or longer if you pay more. During that time you can get as many drugs on the card as you like.

In England you can get an annual card, costing £10.40 per month payable by direct debit, Once you need more than 14 prescriptions per year it's cheaper. Just google for prescription pre pay certificate and then you can set up on-line.

Some illnesses like diabetes, thyroid conditions, cancer means you get free prescriptions, but unfortunately lupus is not included.

As per Marypw, go to the NHS website and look for a NHS Prescription Prepayment Certificate. Cost 104.00 per year, with unlimited prescriptions. i would have spent over £1800 last year without it.
