My sister died of rare complications due to lupus. I also have lupus, i have been told it is mild. As far as i'm aware, lupus does have a genetic link but if she does not have any symptoms i would not worry too much.

I wouldn't worry to much about being checked either if she's not unwell or haven' got any symptoms. It's very unlikely she has it.

tremarel, lupus affected her gut, she ended up having a small bowel transplant which unfortunately didn't work out. She was 48. she had been ill for many years with spondylitus, they didn't know she had lupus. When i started having joint pains they knew what to look for. Many people have to wait years for a diagnosis.
