Hi is anyones hair thinning due to steriods? - LUPUS UK
Hi is anyones hair thinning due to steriods?
I think that it is very difficult to know for sure what is the effects of the lupus itself which causes hair thinning and what symptoms might be due to the drugs. My hair is very thin and has been for years.
Hi thanks for replying first time on this site I have read as much as possiable so many people different illnesses I am still in the prosses of a diagnos hopefully in the next two months not been well for over 3yeatsmy gp put me on steroids big help I thought I was going insane lots of support from hubby I think I am getting through to a lot of people I know lupus awareness I hope you have more good days than bad take carex
Sorry to hear that you have been unwell for 3 years and I hope that you get a diagnosis soon. Many people just don't understand how very ill one can feel - its tough getting through to others the awfulness of it all. I am pretty good with the Lupus but still have up and down times. I take steroids but am cutting down slowly and take an immune-supressant Mycophenolate.
Take care
Have been on 5mg of prednisolne for 5 years with increases for flares and attacts but hair thinning was not one of my symptoms. But..... Cyclophospamide which I had to take for a course of 6 months did... everywhere my hair fell out!!!
Came back a year after the treatment finished, different colour and thicker..

Hey Sara,
Steroids are a **** up (excuse the language) but yes they harm you more in the long run even though they're helping your lupus symptoms. I put on 3 stone because of them and have horrendous moon face as amanda says, I've also been told that the medication had changed my personality (which is so hard to hear from the people you love)
But in terms of hair loss, mine was due to a huge flare.. you need to find the right balance of medication. My hair is still thin, but it started sprouting back after i was put on mepacrine. are you seeing anyone at St Thomas's, you should, they're the top people and will help you! Much love, take care xxx
Steroids tend to have the opposite effect and will thicken your hair, eyebrows, leg hairs etc.
