ulcer on tip of finger???

I no longer know where to post this so it's going scleroderma and raynaud's too.

Anyway, for about a month, among all the other weird goings on on my hands and fingers, I have noticed an increasingly hard bumpy patch on the tip of my index finger which is also extremely painful for such a small thing. It has redness inside, a bit like a chillblain. It's not going away and feels like it's getting more bumpy . When it's wet, after a shower or washing my hand, bits of it look white, almost like a burn.

Could this be the beginnings of a digital ulcer? My Raynaud's had calmed down a lot but lately I've started to get glue fingers regularly and all it takes is for me to touch something cool or for me to be cold and my fingers on right hand start to tingle and go pale - not as bad as they used to - for example hanging up even slightly damp washing in the airing cupboard and bizarrely when drying my hair.

Hello Brychni,I have raynauds too and when you have a bit of a flare I start having red bumps on the finger with painful tips. To reduce pain I keep them warm and dry. Get disposable gloves to do wet tasks, even when using the toilet. I get charcoal activated hand warmers to put in my gloves. My raynauds damage my finger tips, its a hassle to get finger print. Then am on sidenefil and neifedpin to help dialate my blood vessels. I am also on a flolan infusion twice a year. Take care and I hope you get better.

Hi Brychni, I've recently had severe chilblain Lupus. From what you describe, this seems to be chilblains.

When I go in the shower and look at my hands, I have white patches on the joints, the same as you describe. I also have the bump on the tips of 2 of my fingers.

I suggest a visit to your GP. I was prescribed a lot of meds due to the severity. But yours doesn't seem to be as bad from what you described. They may simply prescribe a steroid cream, which might reduce the symptoms.

Hi Brychni, finger sores are such a nuisance! I get them on my fingers all the time; at first the rheumy thought they were chillblains, but I’ve since been diagnosed with vasculitis. Hydroxy keeps them 90% under control, but I still get them. For the bad ones, I use Anusol topical cream, which is actually a treatment for haemorrhoids. It’s the only thing that works!

I suspect yours might be different though, as I don’t get the white bits you’ve described. To get my sores diagnosed, I had to see a dermatologist and get a fresh sore biopsied within 72 hours of it appearing. Not easy to do, but it paid off, coz now I’ve got the right treatment for the sores. All the best with yours and let us know how you go!
