Unexplained vertigo

Hi everyone

This morning I had vertigo all of a sudden out of nowhere . About an hour before that I experienced very minimal blurred vision when I was looking at my phone which lasted for about a minute . I’m newly diagnosed with Lupus and I’ve been taking hydroxychloroquine for 6 weeks now .Any ideas if these could be side effects of hydroxychloroquine or related to lupus itself? I would be very grateful for replies.

Thank you Family

Had a bout last Oct was terrible ! Put on beta-histamine which I am currently attempting to taper off. One of the most beneficial things that helped me was a cranial osteopath. Would love to still be going for appointments but costly 🙄

I get this often. My gp said to try the Epley Maneouvre which they can do for you or you can try yourself at home as there are many you tubes. It only takes about 5 mins. I was sceptical but it stopped my dizziness which was 24/7 before that for weeks. I still get the odd bout of dizziness but not constant. If the manoeuvre doesn't work you've lost nothing and then you know its not vertigo caused by inner ear issues.

Hi there,

When I first started on hydroxychloroquine I suffered from vertigo in the first few months as my body adjusted. I went to see a Ent physio who did some manoeuvres that helped a lot but noticed when my dose was quite high it was more present as an interim dizziness now and again.

For now my lupus has been stable and in remission so the dose is lowered and I don’t get vertigo. Could have been coincidence but I remember posting on here about it and I’m sure others had experienced similar.

Hope it passes and settles down for you soon.

Re: starting hydroxychloroquine - My blood sugar I'm sure got reduced sometimes to start with. I think I was less hungry just because insulin became more sensitive and then at times felt suddenly a bit faint. I learnt I needed sometime sweet.

This was a post on starting hydroxychloroquine.

Not sure if thus relates at all to vertigo though. I think I was feeling faint, not dizzy..often get them mixed up though .

Hi Sun moon, I've lupus for 33 years and have been on hydroxychloroquine for many years. I suddenly started getting vertigo 18 months. So it's definitely not related hydroxychloroquine in my case, but frustrating and confusing nonetheless.

The epley manoeuvre really works for me. Look on YouTube there are lots of videos. It helps if someone can talk you through it as you're doing it. Good luck.

Epley manoevre has sorted my vertigo a couple of times. You tube videos explain it.

Would be interest to know if there is any connection as I have just started to suffer vertigo on occasion. I have been on Hydroxychloroquine for 8 years . Horrible feeling so I hope they resolve it for you - I’m going to follow advice in your replies and look on YouTube for a possible solution. Good luck
