where are you? I’d consider changing GP if that’s feasible. Shouldn’t be like that

I was thinking that access to GPs varies quite a lot around the UK in terms of you being able to change. Hope you get somewhere

hi peachys, when you say private healthcare, is that medical insurance or what you personally paid for. If you paid, you could speak/write to the consultant who you saw and ask if he works for the nhs, then get the gp to refer you to him, it might speed things up? I was lucky to have medical insurance when I got diagnosed and had all tests done and after discussion with consultant that this was going to be long term he advised I got myself transferred to him on nhs. This was long before covid came along so may have been easier to do. You may find that going to a consultant on the nhs they may not agree with the private consultants diagnosis.

Has your private consultant written to your GP? Some things - like mycophenolate - GPs are not allowed to prescribe except on a consultant's say so. But if your private consultant has done that, and said you need regular blood tests, surely your GP cannot refuse to treat you? 'First do no harm' is supposed to one of the medical profession's guiding principles....

Hi Peachys,

Has the GP given a reason why they cannot treat you?

All patients are entitled to be treated under the NHS. If you feel you are not getting the correct response from your GP, you are entitled to change doctors. Learn how to change doctors at lupusuk.org.uk/getting-the-...

Did you know that most surgeries have a cancellation list? You can be asked to be placed on a cancellation list so if someone cannot attend an appointment you can be contacted to see if you can attend in their place. This way you may be seen at an earlier date.

Kindest regards,

Michaella 😊
