Surgical Mesh !

I have been diagnosed with triple hernias in my groin area and one is femoral.

I have received mixed and various answers to the situation from surgeons.

However would anyone know if surgical mesh is not a good option for folk with autoimmune ?

I seem to tick all 3 box's not to have it ....female, thin and autoimmune !

I found the BBC reports about it which horrified me ......even though I dont trust them.

Any experience with this out there ?

Hello. Is that the same as a prolapse? I've got bladder, bowel and uterus prolapse. Waiting for appointment to see if a pessary would help. I thought the NHS had stopped using the mesh doing any surgery 🤔

Apparently only stopped using mesh on womb prolapse.

I wouldn't know if your condition is the same as mine, I wouldn't think so ?

Hey I'm still on here and found some info on surgical mesh !

If the Doctors suggest it to you I would strongly suggest you search surgical mesh on this site first !!!

The BBC did some programs on it too you can find them on YouTube

Good luck !

Hello Mozart12, I live in the states. I had surgical mesh used for pelvic floor repair... aka hernia, in 2001. The surgeon used hernia mesh to do the repair and because of autoimmune issues I immediately had problems. The first sign was fibromyalgia. 3 years later it developed into SLE Lupus. The hernia mesh is a petroleum based product and my body immediately reacted to it. I had pain from that surgery that never resolved and to this day my pelvic floor is still inflamed. Once they put the mesh in you it is pretty near impossible to remove. At the time I had a choice between the mesh and using cadaver tissue, which sort of grossed me out. But now I wish I had gone with that. There are other ways to fix hernias now. Please check out alternatives. I don't wish anyone to suffer like I have. I hope the best outcome for you. ❤️

Oh my lord thank you so much for getting in touch !!!

I have had so many different perspectives from 3 different surgeons and have checked stuff out myself. Then I realised if I already have autoimmune I should check out other people the same and see what they say........Im sooooo glad I did !

There's a Doctor Towfiye in Beverly Hills in the States who sounds very switched on. She's on Youtube so check her out as she deals with complications of Hernias and Mesh !

All the best to finding a resolve hun X

OK so you had autoimmune before you had the procedure ?

Has your mesh given you major problems then ?

I was lucky and had the repair without mesh, it should be banned. The problem can be that it in beds in the flesh and if there is a problem it’s a painful nightmare to get rid of
