Have you been offered antibiotics -or can’t you take them. Personally do not have lupus but do have some knowledge of a/i diseases and steroid use.

Thanks will ask Helpline as will try anything to get rid of them!.,

Hi,

I had terrible TMJ pain and problems with my jaw locking every day, headaches and shoulder pain for months. Eventually a physio saw me and gave gentle stretching exercises which relaxed the muscles running from my jaw down my neck and shoulders (they were in spasm).

Exercises if you’d like to try consisted of turning the head from side to side as if trying to look over shoulder, stretch but not too far. Sitting on a chair- put your hand under your bottom, and stretch the head away from that shoulder so you feel the pull down side of neck. This used to release my locking jaw. Also holding the lower jaw slightly forward helped.

TBH I had no faith in the physio referral at all, and yet like a miracle he sorted out my problem with months of pain! I was extremely grateful as he changed my life 😅

I’m not medically trained- you may need to see a physio yourself, but give it a go as it may improve things for you. If ever I feel things are tightening up again, I just repeat the exercises and I’m fine.

Good luck. 🤞🏽

Also you can try heat packs, massage, dental splints (to stop you clenching or grinding your jaw while you sleep) and OTC pain relief.

It’s important you see a specialist if it doesn’t get better or if the pain is so bad you can’t eat, talk or otherwise function. I had to investigate my own TMJ pain when I couldn’t eat, and I’m glad I did, because it turned out my TMJs were disintegrating! I’m not saying that’s what is happening for you, only that it can be worth investigating if things don’t get better!
