Hi, I have just had routine blood tests come back showing heightened cholesterol and blood pressure tests higher than normal. I also have water retention in my shins and ankles and swelling along with chronic back pain in the kidney area.Could all these symptoms be pointing to lupus nehpheritis? Very worried at the moment and seating appt with my rhumey. Any advice appreciated!!

Hi.i have class v lupus nephritis. There are very few signs and symptoms of LN .High BP can be 1 as is foamy urine and some swelling. Some 60% of lupies have renal involvement without knowing and the only way to be certain is by kidney biopsy. My LN was diagnosed by a kidney specialist (not my rheumy) after a routine labstick was off the scale for blood and protein.i had a biopsy in 2018. Try not to worry as stress will make things worse. Best wishes SML x
P.s like winterswimmer mine is painless and my cholesterol is normal . X
Hi Sabine, I have had Class IV nephritis for 10 years at least, and yes, you are right that water retention and swelling of feet ankles (and other parts) can be symptoms. I have experienced it as pretty painless though. Whatever is going on with you - you are on the road to a diagnosis if you have had a blood test. Good luck getting to see a rheumatologist.
Hi there sorry to hear about this - I too have Lupus Neph. the thing that caused me to have your symptoms was low thyroid hormone - high cholesterol is one of the key indicators of a dysfunction.
