“…The researchers said that their findings "indicate that there are shared genetic effects between the autoimmune disease SLE and the clinical consequences of COVID-19" and that further research could "help explain the genetic basis of both diseases, which may be in part due to variation in response to viral infection".Dr David Morris, PhD and Prof Tim Vyse, both from KCL, and study co-authors, said the latest insight "opens the door to our understanding of how the biology of the immune system is calibrated to protect us against infection from viruses and other infectious agents, but at the risk of developing autoimmune disease"…”🧐

Thank you for sharing this article. I too found it interesting. It could be why some people suffer with long covid? Perhaps they carry (SLE) autoimmune gene?

It would be brilliant if the researchers could find out more.

Best wishes.
