Hi, I just wondered if anyone had experience with asthma and lupus? after having asthma for 40+ years, my respiratory consultant seems to think I don’t have asthma after all - I have a cat scan that says airways consistent asthma and been treated last 7 years as severe/brittle asthmatic 🙈 and through long term high dose steroids I’ve got permanent adrenal insufficiency, glaucoma, thin skin, easy bruising etc - could my Lupus be responsible for my chest issues? I have an appointment with my Rheumatologist next week and wondered if it was worth mentioning?

Lupus and Asthma
Hi. Was sorta diagnosed with asthma and was given the blue inhaler that never worked for me. Yrs after being diagnosed with sle, I believe I never had asthma and it was the start of sle and its friends. X
I have had asthma since I was a teen (now 47) and was diagnosed with sle earlier this year. I believe I do have nothing, but that the asthma can be triggered by a flare. I find that the steroid preventer is most useful at these times.
Would definitely discuss it with the rheumatologist though, as everyone is different.
I have had SLE for over 30 years now and about 5 years ago, I was also diagnosed with Asthma, started with a preventer inhaler but its gotten worse so now have a blue one to use as well when I get breathless x
I was diagnosed with asthma well before I was diagnosed with SLE and Sjogrens. I used both blue and brown inhalers but never found the blue one worked that well, but the brown (steroid one) one helped a lot I very rarely need an inhaler at all these days just if I have a cold or have been in contact with a trigger (tree pollen these days). I believe in me it’s actually dry air passages, we have dry eyes, and dry other bits so why not air passages? Of course there are people who have bad asthma but I’m lucky in that mines not bad at all.
