Does anyone have white patches?

I understand Vitiligo can be connected to autoimmune diseases. And I have recently noticed several white patches around my neck.

Hi, I’ve got quite a few patches over my arms. Since having a lupus SLE diagnosis and taking hydroxychloriquine I haven’t noticed any more appearing. Don’t know if it’s co incidence.

Mine, visible mainly neck/jawline, but I can see it all over face, head & chest, slowed hugely (and seems now to have stopped increasing) when I went gluten/dairy free in 2017 and started to absorb supplements better. I started using methylfolate in small quantities in 2019 along with my B12. Neuro said the vitiligo would be due to long family history of Pernicious Anaemia/B12D (although I am 'fine!). Seems to occur often alongside other AIs but I've read mention of oxidative stress and increased cytokines, esp. IL6 and I have a genetic predisposition for that as well as some methylation issues which some also link to vitiligo. I suspect that the trigger may vary from person to person. The first time I saw it was in a chum with diabetes. Might be worth getting B12 and folate checked, although if it is a cellular/transport problem, bloods may look fine (like mine). Best wishes.

Hi, my brother has vitiligo, he has it on his hands, torso and under his chin and neck, he also has a bold line of grey in his hair, I would check with the doctor who may refer you to a dermatologist if they think it is vitiligo they may check if you are intolerant to certain foodstuffs ie gluten or lactose, best to get the professional opinion.

This is vitiligo on the hands:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vit...

“…is a long-term skin condition characterized by patches of the skin losing their pigment. The patches of skin affected become white and usually have sharp margins. The hair from the skin may also become white. The inside of the mouth and nose may also be involved.Typically both sides of the body are affected.Often the patches begin on areas of skin that are exposed to the sun. It is more noticeable in people with dark skin. Vitiligo may result in psychological stress and those affected are sometimes stigmatized…

The exact cause of vitiligo is unknown. It is believed to be due to genetic susceptibility that is triggered by an environmental factor such that an autoimmune disease occurs. This results in the destruction of skin pigment cells.Risk factors include a family history of the condition or other autoimmune diseases, such as hyperthyroidism, alopecia areata, and pernicious anemia. It is not contagious.Vitiligo is classified into two main types: segmental and non-segmental…”
