Dry, dull Hair

Hello all,

I know that hair problems are not that big of a deal for some of us with lupus, but I'm tired of my hair being dry, no shine and itchy at times. My hair is horrible ever since i started taking immune suppressants meds.

Do you have any recommendations on brands? I try to wash my hair once or twice a week so it doesn't get extra dry but that doesn't help much any more.

I appreciate any recommendations for this subject. :)

Hi, Ive got discoid lupus and RA and my meds play havoc. I’d generally say a good regular haircut works wonders but with lockdown I’ve just discovered olaplex. Some salons do an olaplex treatment for about £20 which lasts about 12 weeks. Or the products can be found online on reputable sites. I’m using the no 3, no 4 & no5. Or you could try the trial kit x

Hi there same problem here - I bought John Freida Miraculous Recovery for dry hair - in his Frizzease range - just £2 or £3 at Asda just wash hair and apply to damp hair and you only have to wait 5 mins - really good !!!

I just used the tub of Conditioner-purple in colour - I always use a good thickening shampoo. X

Hi MorllseGreat timing 😁. I read about a great product a couple of weeks ago and went ahead and bought it .Philip Kingsley Elasticizer deep conditioning treatment

Bizarrely you wet your hair then put treatment on .. pop shower cap on .. leave for an hour then shampoo and condition hair as normal .

Honestly mine felt horrible like straw and it feels loads better after one wash 😊.

Take care x

I use very expensive oils and serums like grow gorgeous to stop my hair falling out and well as the hair gummies. I decided to make my own to cut down on cost. I brought castor oil and mixed it with sweet almond oil and a few drops of rosemary. Its extremely sticky and a lot harder to use than the expensive oil. However I went to bed with it on my roots and when I washed it out the next day my hair was the the best its been for yrs.

I hope it stops my hair from falling out.

Hope this helps

Castor oil great for making brows and lashes grow too

Definitely!! I had lost a lot of my brows and lashes. I used hair burst wand until it ran out, now use my castor oil mix, now they are better than they have ever been.

My hair has recovered from heavy pred dose of 20 mg (was like a haystack) and now it is just old hair (sounds gross) so after washing with Aveda shampoo I put conditioner and then when it is dry a John Frieda serum you just put in. Seems to help and it is not expensive. Bad hair is low priority compared to health but it is the first thing people notice. Good luck.

You could try a good quality olive oil. Put it all over your hair, wrap it in a towel for a few hours then wash it out. Perhaps cheaper and natural. Good Luck

That's what I have started to do and it works brilliantly. It's cheaper than all the hair products and my scalp has stopped being itchy and irritated and my hair is miles better. No longer looking like an old dried up knackered paintbrush.❤️

Hello, how do you remove the olive oil?I’m going to try with avocado oil a d grape oil based on some ingredients I see used on some recommended products.

Thanks

To remove the oil..mix a small amount of shampoo in some water n rub that all over your oily hair..then wash your hair as normal 🌈😽😽xx

Morllse, I also am a victim to what I call scary hair. From all the meds, then breaking my neck, then Covid, just worse and worse. I never make spontaneous decisions if I can help it... but had to have a c-scan for broken ribs recently and saw a hair salon. Not the one I always go to, but hadn't gone for over a year. My husband said, why don't you go and get your hair trimmed. The girl was nice, but I must have miscommunicated somehow. Now, my hair is barely to my chin and I have always had long or at least should length hair. It is a good cut, but my hair kind of hid my distorted neck. I feel vulnerable and naked which probably sounds crazy.

In the big scope of things, not the worst ever in life, but a shock for sure. Yes, it will grow, but it will take forever being this short.

I am glad for your post, because I still need something to make my short hair look healthy.

Healing hugs.

Wow, you have been through a lot.I know what you mean about having a really short hair, I used to have short hair and I felt naked. But it is so easy to take care of it that a lot of times I think I wanna go back to that.

I second - Olaplex it’s amazing- I use no 4,5,6 & 7.

Also Biotin vitamin which is great for hair & nails - feeds from the inside out ❤️

My hair & nails are terrible too. I use John freida miraculous recovery shampoo & intensive conditioner then a serum when drying.I’ve been advised to take biotin to see if that helps, which product do you use as I’m unsure which to try!

Hi MoominMomma

The one I use which was recommended is - Nutravita - high strength biotin with coconut - 10,000 ug (356 tabs - 1 a day)

I got them from Amazon about £16 - well worth it x

Ooh, thanks for that. I’m ordering some today! It’s always good to get something that people recommend. Thanks again 😃

Honestly it’s amazing it takes a good 6 - 8 weeks to kick in but fab. Can cause upset tummy in some people but I have been fine.

Another tip - castor oil also on Amazon for eyebrow & eyelash growth - good luck babes xx
