Does anybody suffer really bad cognitive functioning and memory issues with citalopram?

I went on citalopram last summer out of desperation because I pretty much went insane over a bad physical medical issue. From the offset it did affect my memory, in that short term things I try to remember are transient. My mind is very foggy basically.

More recently it’s felt worse and I find it hard to find the right words, to concentrate and I feel really ditsy in my overall function.

I wondered if other people have experienced this from citalopram? I have been told by a few people their memory and general thinking can suck on it but I’m just so paranoid I have early onset dementia or something (I’m 34). I’m so scared. I used to be so on it but, I’m really not any more.

Ive taken it for 11 years since losing a family member In a road accident.ive only really had brain fog etc for the last few years so I attribute it to the lupus.i also have hashimoto's which can cause similar concentration issues.i used to work in a secure unit for end stage dementia and had no issues with memory or concentration until I became Ill in 2013 x

I started Citalopram in January 2019 when I became really ill with anxiety due to an issue which hasn’t really resolved itself yet, but as soon as it does I’ll be coming off it. I couldn’t handle 20mg per day which adversely affected my bowel, but 10mg has been great and has really helped to calm me. I do struggle to find the right word quite often which when speaking can be embarrassing, but overall I think my memory is still good for a 65 year old and certainly a lot better than hubby’s! 😉 Don’t beat yourself up about your memory which might be the result of medication but also anxiety and brain fog as we Lupies call it can be responsible. Try to calm yourself with Mindfulness meditations and other relaxation techniques and with a clear mind the rest will fall into place. I hope this helps Ankapoo. Take care. 🤗😘
