Hi...possibly if you have kidney involvement.lupus often affects the kidneys without people knowing.foamy urine is one sign.i have class v lupus nephritis which was first suspected by a routine dipstick at rheumatology then a scan and biopsy at a renal unit.biopsy is the only way to get a definite diagnosis. Creatinine levels and estimated gromular filtration rate are other possible indicators.kind regards x

Yes for me, all my life even without known kidney involvement and I was diagnosed SLE at 12. I’m 49. I’m curious how often this is true as everyone always seems surprised by it.

Hi Shannon. I’ve never had protein in my urine. I haven’t had any kidney involvement thus far. Usually there is a reason the kidneys are not filtering out the protein particles the way they should. Has your physician investigated the reason? Have you seen a nephrologist? I hope they can get to the bottom of it. Take good care.

Thank you - they’ve never found anything else but I agree it seems strange and continue to mention it.

I think protein in the urine is a sign that your kidneys are inflamed (nephritis) which is almost certainly lupus related. Presumably health professionals are investigating?

Not necessarily. Only if you have Nephritis. Before I had nephritis I only had SLE with no kidney involvement so no protein leak. x
