THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

I dont know whether this is deep philosophical insight or a sign the lockdown is getting to me. But be thankful its not about cats, dogs or pooh bears.

If the one thing that this corona virus has taught me its whos important in this world.

So for all the nurses, doctors, care workers, refuse workers, supermarket staff, cleaners, post people, delivery drivers, transport workers etc etc ... You are amazing you risk your lives so that you help others and keep life rolling on.

So for all politicians, business leaders etc ...... You look (at least to me) inadequate, shallow, self serving and utterly irrelevant.

I hope when this is all over we dont forget who are the important people.

So nothing controversial there .. well at least it didnt have any dog or cat stuff ... but i am working on that.

Have similar thoughts myself, probably not lockdown getting to you, just more light shone on the govt showing true colours more clearly .

Hi jimbo, with you on this one - I think lockdown gives us the time and space to reflect on who and what is important in our own lives as well as in the wider community/world at large. Hope pooh bear is doing ok and looking forward to more dog and cat posts - is your woofler due another hair cut soon?! 🐶

Hi Horsewhisper,

Funny you should mention that. Gizmo was starting to look like a little yeti. So I had a go at him this morning and will continue today. He likes it so much he keeps rewarding me by giving me his teeth identations on my hands.

I think you’re right to praise all of the people you do...they are amazing! However, I’m not so sure that politicians, business leaders and the rest are ‘utterly irrelevant’. They may have made some mistakes (people do and they’re dealing with something they’ve never experienced before), but they’ve also done a lot of good. There are millions of people being paid who wouldn’t otherwise be, lots of businesses kept going, lots of money to help people struggling and a massive effort going into medical research to try and get us all through this crisis and back on our feet again. I think we should be grateful to everyone who is trying to defeat Coronavirus and try not to point fingers of blame when everyone is just doing their best to keep as many people safe as possible.

Hi Puffyface, Firstly thank you for your reply and providing some balance and challenge which is welcomed.

My comments are far more to do with how we think about and respect those in society who for so long havent been thought about or respect than to apportion blame.

For instance yesterday I took my first trip to the local tip for over 2 months now. With a long wait I gradually edged closer to the entrance and to my horror the staff of the tip regulating the entrance were getting abuse from the users because they had to wait. The staff at the tip are always polite and very helpful and dont deserve such treatment. They are risking their lives so that normal business can go on and in my eyes deserve our admiration and respect.

With regard to politicians etc it is a very tough time and I wouldnt want their job and I am no sure any political party would do any better. They should be highly relevant but in my eyes they look inadequate and wanting.

My point mainly is about the importance of what are termed the little people who are in fact the biggest of us all. I think these times show these people for who they are ; critical, dedicated and so so important. My plea is not to forget this.
