The LupusUK site doesnt appear to have separate figures for Scotland

and nor does anywhere else I looked at - so don't get me started
Thanks, that’s what I’ve found also, thanks for your reply.
Willy, shortly following diagnosis in 2015, after my rheumy laughed when I said I had SLE-related GI problems - 'that's not lupus!' - I wrote to my MSP (he replied on Westminster-headed paper) enquiring about the managed clinical network for SLE Shona Robinson had pledged in 2007 (as mentioned in PMR's link - it's still not set up) and hey presto! Shona replied to his letter as she was by then in charge of Health
They're still working to a 1-in-a-thousand estimate which is good, because that's the higher end of current science, but bad, because probably half of those are undiagnosed...I asked at my local general how many attended the lupus clinic, and the number is below 50% of 1/1000...at my GP practice, there are 2 in a patient list of 10,000
So as PMR says, it's anybody's guess xxx
I’m in Oban population 8500 and I know at least 5-6 people with lupus
Personally I believe there are 8 - 10000 SLE patients in Scotland and over 100,000 in the UK.
NICE states :”There are currently around 15,000 people in England and Wales with SLE and approximately 2000 people are diagnosed with SLE each year. “
I disagree with the 15,000. If 2000 are diagnosed each year. If you take an age range of 0 to 85. No one is diagnosed between 0 - 11. Applying 2000 per year to 12 - 85 will result in 148,000. Therefore 100,000 is realistic.
Best wishes Kevin
