Do you remember when supermarkets looked like this? Oh those were the days! ๐Ÿ˜ Hopefully it wonโ€™t be long until we can enjoy those days again. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž

Wow, Iโ€™m often thinking about all the things we take for granted ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Ours still do - there was a brief lack of 12-packs in the village but the big Spar always had them and the shelves were full of 4 and 6 packs ...

Thatโ€™s miserable. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Sunny but cold here in south of Scotland, so Iโ€™m staying in anyway. I hope you have plenty to keep you occupied. ๐ŸคžTake care. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜˜

Not only this issue but the prices are astronomical. I needed washing liquid and bleach, rice and chicken for my hubby on top of my usual shop for two of us and our two dogs ยฃ160!,! Shocking.

Spotty-ewe profile image
Spotty-ewe in reply to CecilyParsley

That is pure extortion!๐Ÿ˜ฒ You would think the government would make it law that retailers couldnโ€™t take advantage of us during this crisis ! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Take care. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜˜

Thank you you too. Thank God I have my PIP this week. I donโ€™t have to spend it on getting out and about but who would have thought it would be spent on food? A 2 kg chicken ยฃ15.80!, ๐Ÿ˜ฑxx

Spotty-ewe profile image
Spotty-ewe in reply to CecilyParsley

Thatโ€™s crazy pricing.๐Ÿ˜ณ Greedy retailer cashing in on peopleโ€™s desperation. ๐ŸฅดEnjoy the chicken - at that price it should be a beauty! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am a vegetarian but my hubby and gorgeous cockers will enjoy the chicken I am sure xx

Really? They are upping their prices and taking advantage of everyoneโ€™s plight? Thatโ€™s awful. Since Trump made this an official, national state of emergency, part of the law is โ€˜no price gougingโ€™. Anyone doing so will be fined.

I wish people would just do the right thing of their own accord.

Sadly, no such luck Brook. There are always the selfish, greedy and profiteers in this world.๐Ÿฅด I wish our government had the sense to do what Trump did. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป That would have made it fairer for all of us.

in reply to Spotty-ewe

Yeah, Iโ€™m not sure which President originally placed it as part of our national security, but Iโ€™m glad Pres. Trump placed the order so people arenโ€™t hurt financially more than they already will be being out of work. I canโ€™t tell you how blessed I feel that my husband not only can continue working, but we also have his monthly retirement as well. And our kids all have jobs they can work from home. But, I feel so sorry for those suffering and I donโ€™t understand anyone who feels to gain at the hands of others. We should all be doing our part to help not hurt.

Our government is going to help people unable to go to their work by paying 80% of their wages and it is helping the self employed too (a little more complicated as they have to work out what their average annual profit is over the last 3 years) but it if it had put in place the law against rocketing prices it would have helped those of us living entirely on pensions. I am one of the unfortunate women who has had 6 years of my pension stolen by the government for being born in the wrong year so have to wait until Iโ€™m 66 (next year) to get my pension. Had it been anyone but the govt Iโ€™d have sued them for breach of contract! Luckily I have my teacherโ€™s pension which is also reduced due to having to stop work due to ill health, but it is better than nothing. We manage fairly well but could have done without food prices suddenly increasing. Pres Trump And our PM could perhaps learn a thing or two from each other.

Iโ€™m so sorry Spotty. Those of us who play by the rules, often miss out.

I'm forgetting what supermarkets look like as scared to even visit one due to the crowds.

Last trip out was to the bank to sort internet banking.

Joy!

I hope your experience at the bank was better than my hubbyโ€™s last week. He left a 2 metre space between him and the person in front of him. A woman brushed past him and then stood between him and the person in front. He explained he was in the queue but practising social distancing. She glared at him and stayed put. He left as he didnโ€™t want to risk picking up anything. Some people!! Keep safe.

Oh yes, I remember it well ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

Hello Spotty. I am appalled at the prices Iโ€™m seeing on your post. Just to say supermarkets are returning to normal here and prices are only slightly raised. Mostly by the lack of special offers or BOGOFโ€™s. Itโ€™s probably due to the choice we have here and the competition as all the big supermarkets have a shop within a few miles. But itโ€™s dreadful they are profiting by the situation in some areas

Spotty-ewe in reply to Barbara17

Hi Barbara. I totally agree and think our PM should have made a law against profiteering at a time like this - indeed any time. At least Pres Trump thought of that in advance and has prevented it happening in US. Iโ€™m not sure what the prices are like here now as hubby has been doing all the shopping for the last 3 weeks while Iโ€™ve been isolating. His attitude is if we need it we just have to buy it and he doesnโ€™t tell me any prices as he knows it will upset me which he also knows is not good for the SLE. Perhaps he is right. As long as we stay healthy - what price do we put on health? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hoping you are keeping well Barbara and have seen the back of that awful rash.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Keep safe! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜˜

Barbara17 in reply to Spotty-ewe

My rash has not completely gone but I can see great improvements. Iโ€™m stuck in the house too and the weather is still cold so no one sees my body! Not a pretty sight at the best of times. My husband is also doing all the shopping but he gives me the receipt - I used to work for RBS so have always dealt with the finances.

Hope all well with you. Keep safe. Barbara x

Spotty-ewe in reply to Barbara17

Iโ€™m so sorry to hear the rash has not gone yet. โ˜น๏ธ That is such a long time youโ€™ve had it lingering on!! I hope and pray it eventually goes before the summer arrives. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

My husband deals with pretty well all the finances since I had a break down almost 20 years ago. But he wonโ€™t let me see any receipts on the grounds that they might have virus germs on them! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Whatever.๐Ÿ˜‰

Apart from having a cold virus lingering on, off and on again for the last 6-7 weeks Iโ€™m doing fine thanks Barbara. ๐ŸคžJust the usual fatigue on bad days.

Take care. Best wishes. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜˜xx

Hi Spotty, here I am, late, but to reply, that's the supermarket smash picture of the month. It should go onto the " National Geographic" cover for photo of the year- of the great TP shortage!, LOL... Our stores look like a war zone, Black Hawk Down, like the movie. People are very kind here, but, the distribution is limited, and sickened. Hubby went out fully covered like for surgery, I should have photoed that one, halloween costume, ha ha. waited in line, social distancing, and store opened at 7am., he went in they took his temperature first, then gave him a carriage, cleaned down, He went to the back of store for meats, and paper goods of any kind, none! Only 10 shoppers in at a time, good practice, but not much supplies. So, the store manager said try again soon, he was so sorry. We cant keep coming back, it is not safe here, and we are high risk, so the good manager took our information, and will call us when shipment comes someday. I thought about so many people who need this type of help, so we are putting up a sign at the postal office, if anyone needs help, we will try..... On the up side of this, the Good Lord has brought us all closer together for the greater good. That is why we love, love is to help others beyond our selves. So I thank you for the funny post, it is a joy to giggle, at what we thought two months ago, would be foolish. Keep those good things coming. All the love, peace, blessings, joy, health, and care to you Spotty, and your loved ones... thestormy sunshine:)

Thanks so much Stormy for your kind words and for sharing your husbands shopping experience with us.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป My hubby went out Monday (he goes only once per week) dressed in boiler suit and mask and armed with his medi-wipes and hand sanitizer. He showers and changes his clothes when he returns. The supermarket had the same practices as your store.

That is a lovely and kind thing you are doing in offering help if you can give it to other vulnerable people. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป We are very fortunate here that 40 younger fitter members of our village have offered to do shopping or collect prescriptions for those of us who are elderly or vulnerable. However hubby is so independent and in denial of being either elderly or vulnerable (and heโ€™s both๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚) so heโ€™s determined to carry on doing the weekly shop until he canโ€™t any longer. Yes, good idea to photograph him ready for war with the virus next time he goes out. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ. Weโ€™ll have to exchange images. ๐Ÿ˜† Take care lovely Stormy and stay safe. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜˜๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒธ A cuddle as always for Storm. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿค—
