Skin Remedies SLE

Hi :) I have recently been diagnosed with SLE and i'm struggling with joint pain & soreness to my skin especially on my hands (they feel like burns). I have used steroid creams and tacrolimus cream in the past as directed by a dermatologist, however, I now only use Aveeno moisturiser. Any tips please? Hope you're all doing ok in this crazy world we live in today.

Hi Tooshybug.

Just wondering what you use to wash your hands? On the advice of my dermatologist, I started using Epimax Cream (500g bottles - over the counter from a pharmacy). It can be used as a hand /body / face cleanser and as an all over moisturiser too. Works a treat for me.

I also use Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream (concentrate) many times a day. Non-greasy and seems to protect better than other hand creams I've tried - for me at least. Fewer split knuckles.

But skins a funny thing, isn't it...what works for one may not work for another. Neither are expensive so might be worth giving it a whirl and see what happens.

Hope you find something that works for you x

Hi Tooshybug. As Foggyme says skin is a funny thing. I find that my hands itch so much. Unbearable at times. I found that Lulu's time bomb range which has a hand cream (pink tube) which really works for me. Not sure if you are in the UK? xx🤗

Try using creams that are specifically designed for irritated skin, formulas designed for eczema or psoriasis relief that have no perfumes or harsh chemicals in them to irritate your skin.

These creams have ceramides in them, which are compounds that will build up your skin's protective barrier and help it heal.

I've used this:

or this which is even thicker:

Aveeno makes their own version of this if you prefer that brand though I find the CeraVe products a bit more effective:

Ceravè is not only moisturizing relief for your skin, my allergist has me using twice daily because it is suppose to have something in it that rebuilds your skin’s protective barrier. A win-win.

Yes... it is the only thing that really works for me. The ceramide and CeraVe formula rebuilds the protective skin barrier. If I don't use CeraVe regularly, I start to get hives and eczema on my hands and forearms. I think if my skin barrier gets too weak/thin, it triggers an allergic reaction to things I'm handling, so the CeraVe helps strengthen that skin layer and prevent the hives.
