A place to call home

Trying to bring some lightness to our group where we all suffer a lot of pain. I just tried to download some information about the above series which is set in early Australia. It is a series that is well worth watching and may help to take your mind off your pain and problems for a while. Most of the characters are from the U.K.

For those who watch it, I hope that it helps to bring some happiness into your life for a while, and that you are able to get some enjoyment out of it

I tried to download some information to health care about this series but am not sure what happened to it.

It seems I don’t have the right licence. Enjoy, if you get to watch it!

hI, Hope you haven't suffered too much from the fires. it has been terrible to see on our news programmes.

a place to call home is not my fav aussie drama. but you have had some brilliant ones over the years. I think the first one I saw was about convicts making a new life after being released from jail, had a character called digger, maybe late 70's. sullivans [of course] all the river runs [?] with Sigrid thornton, that was fab. country practice. dr blake, loved that, not heard anymore about craig and his accuser, is it likely to make a comeback. I love Ballerat. ooh nearly forgot flyng dr's and there was a rescue one in the 80's sort of lifeguard/helicopter/fire rescue.

love to all aussies and hope the fires are out soon XX

Still 40 fires but a lot of us are having good RAIN!

Thankyou for caring.

I haven't been personally affected but know many who have. The land of droughts and fires and flooding rain! It's home!

Hi Suzanna16 sorry you did not enjoy our mini series “a Place to call home” but it was great that you watched it. I guess I enjoyed it so much because I really believe that story told of what Australia was really like when our early settlers arrived (most of course from the U.K.). It’s totally a matter of personal choice. One very positive thing is that we are talking and thinking about something else apart from our painful diseases.

Many thanks for your concern about our bush fires in Australia. Many are still burning and being fought by brave voluntary fire fighters. You are probably aware that some of these brave men were killed and left behind young families to try and pick up the pieces. Millions of our native animals have either been burned to death or are being treated for burns by volunteers. Unfortunately some of our koalas have died by volunteers trying to feed our koalas water. They are used to getting their water by lapping at water on gum trees and helpful volunteers try to pour water down their throats which of course kills them (they drown with this method of water delivery).

At the moment Melbourne is not filled with smoke, not to say that won’t change again.

We have also lost many beautiful rainforests to fires and more volunteers keep joining to help our overburdened fire fighters.

So many people are homeless in Australia because of the devastation of fires. There are many generous people who have donated both money and time to help during this crisis. It will be a huge relief to all when they are completely out. One sad thing to come out of all of this is that many of the fires were deliberately lit. I hope that those people who did this will get the severe punishment arsonists deserve.

Influenza A is still problematic in Australia and people who are diagnosed with the disease are being treated in hospitals on isolation and also tested for the Corona virus which have similar symptoms to influenza A. Both diseases can kill people if they are not being looked after properly. I’m almost too scared to look at the latest statistics in relation to the Corona virus as so far 560 have died and the number keeps growing. There are two cruise ships who have patients with the Carona virus and no country will let them dock for 14 days.

Scientists in Australia, the U.K., Europe and America are working around the clock to come up with a cure and an antidote. So far they have been using Tamiflu for influenza A for both. It makes the symptoms go away but the patient still has to have total bedrest for 7-10 days and drink plenty of fluids or else the virus will rebound worse than ever.

Best wishes always
