Hi first time posting here and its daunting accepting you have these chronic conditions. So I was diagnosed with Lupus and Scleroderma since April 2017 and have had ups and downs with this horrible illness.

I recently have started having right hip pain sated in Nov 2019 after walking for like 2mins. I have had xray and doctor said result is fine. December 2019 both my thigh muscles have started hurting too. Can't really walk far cos of the pain. Walking up the stairs is becoming a challenge. I had to go offsick from work because of this. Even with rest there is no relief from muscle ache

Also left lower leg is numb. Gp is going to send me for a scan.

Hi seunret,

I am sorry to hear that you've been experiencing a lot of muscle pain, I do hope your upcoming scan will be able to point you in the right direction.

The joints and muscles are commonly affected in people with lupus, it is one of the most common symptoms of the disease. We published a blog article on pain management which contains tips and information which you may find helpful - lupusuk.org.uk/pain-managem...

Please keep us updated, wishing you all the best.

Does sound muscular skeletal, scan can show if there is any trapped nerves causing numbness. So, hard to know what pain is caused by what. I have had two back surgeries which impact hip and legs as well as lupus. Work on simple theory now that it’s a pain and needs to go. Physio helped my hip and can rule out skeletal cause. Good luck, sounds like you are having a rough time.

I was diagnosed recently and my main problems have been muscles and joints. All my scan's have been fine. It's very frustrating as I can't walk without pain, or do any form of exercise, stairs feel like climbing a mountain and I've been told so often that it's just normal degeneration because of my age. It's very hard to get both doctors and the people in your life to understand when there's no evidence. Hope you manage to get things under control soon.

Hello Seunret

I’m sorry to hear about your hip and leg pain. I get debilitating pain in my lower back that wraps around from my kidneys into my groin. I’ve had every investigation they can think of and PT as well but they can’t find the cause of the pain.

I can totally empathise with your situation. I too had to give up work because of the pain (over 18 months ago now).

I can’t really give you much advice, only a virtual soft hug. Do you speak to your GP or consultants about pain management? I have a whole raft of medication that I take for pain and I have recently been referred to a pain clinic (first appointment is next month).

I have read that gentle exercise is very good for pain relief. In my case it seems to make the pain worse though!!
