First Appointment

Hi everyone , I’m due for my first appointment at Birmingham City Hospital as I believe they have a Lupus Centre of Excellence there, has anyone got any experience of attending?

Yes, I had my first appointment there when I was diagnosed in July 2018. My care was quickly transferred to The QE hospital as they discovered I had kidney involvement so I go there instead now, but they were excellent at City Hospital - very thorough and clear. My appointment ended up being extended because things were worse than initially expected but I was never made to feel rushed by any of the staff and they did everything they could to make sure I knew what was going on. I feel very lucky to have been under the care of both of these hospitals.

Hello I have not any direct experience of Birmingham hospitals, but I thought I'd drop a message as we have a very active branch of the charity Lupus UK ... The West Midlands Lupus Group (WMLG). Here's a link to their web site. They have regular meet ups .. a coffee and chat in Shirley area of Birmingham, and the "Lupus Drop in" at Merry Hill Centre Dudley. The next drop in is actually tomorrow (9th Jan) I'm not personally going to be able to make that one but people will be there 2-4pm

Hi thank you fir replying, I don’t live in Birmingham I’m about 45 mins away in Pershore! I have considered coming up to the West Midlands group before but never had the courage to go on my own especially traveling that far.

I have a friend who’s taking me to my appointment as driving long distances is difficult for me.

But I really appreciate your thoughts ☺️
