Can Universal Credit be backdated?

Hello everyone,

I have been sick with Lupus since January 2019 and a result I haven't been able to work. I applied for Universal Credit in October 2019.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get backdated payments from the previous months?

Hiya..... I have lupus and like you I had to stop working, I was 56.

I applied for UC in Feb 2019, I had to go in to see them after which money was paid monthly. I had to have an ability to work assessment which eventually came through in October. They concluded I was unable to work and extra money was awarded, this was backdated to Feb when I initially claimed (received on Christmas day!)

As you can see it took a long time for them to assess for work but all good now, and such a relief!!

Hope this helps, do ask if you need anymore info and good luck. Let me know how you get on.

Xx

Thank you for your response.

I submitted another fit note. The job centre did mention something about a work questionnaire. I'm still unsure what this is.

I am currently looking for a job. I have been getting job interviews but I have been struggling to secure a paid position.

Попълнихте ли въпросник за работа(capability for work questionnaire)?I passed the interview, got approval, now I'm waiting for a decision. But I have to fill in this questionnaire, but I can't do it myself, since I don't know the language well.

Yes I applied one month and it took several months and when I did finally get awarded (it was PIP) they backdated it to when I originally put the claim in and I got a lump sum up about £1400 too which was a massive surprise and a great help! As I've been able to put it towards a new en suite with a bigger walk in shower with a shower seat that I desperately needed so it came just in time! Was so grateful x
