Hi there, for those who have read my posts on going onto PD dialysis and getting my catheter fitted this is an update, on Wednesday of last week exactly one week after getting it fitted I was rushed to A&E as and then subsequently admitted into the renal ward as all my numbers were down and way off the scale. Biggest problem I has was I went off my food and drink as I was having the worst heartburn I've ever experienced in my life at this stage. They seem to think I may have an infection somewhere and are looking at everywhere to sort this out. Numbers etc have all seemed to settle down now and after a few teething problems with the dialysis they were able to flush it out eventually so will start by light infusions of PD dialysis today as the catheter is only fresh. Feeling generally better, still a little unbalanced on my feet and still getting mild heartburn but hopefully on the mend.

I was secretly quite concerned for you. I know that many really have no choice other than to accept the dialysis option.

When I was in that position I changed my diet drastically to hopefully stave off the need for dialysis. It enabled me to regain enough function to move out of the danger zone.

I have fought a battle ever since. So both of us have had food changes foisted on us but in different ways.

I hope things settle for you again now. I know your plan with the PD was to get back to work. You may still be able to. But don't believe you are superman. Your body is under enormous strain right now and you need a bit of rest and recovery.

I realise that involves a lot of boredom. You will need to find ways to manage that.

PD can help in many ways but there are many adjustments you will have to make. It's all possible if you can keep taking care. You cannot take short cuts or over extend yourself anymore.

I hope recovery is speedy and not too uncomfortable

Was wondering how you were.

I’m sad to hear you’re unwell. I do hope things improve for you.

Plus point, looking like no infection can be found but looking more likely the cause was a mixture of kidney function decline and throw in the bodies shock at getting the procedure done is probably what caused it. Started dialysis lightly yesterday and looking forward to getting out of this place in a few days hopefully once I get the hang of doing this. All results improving too.

Hi Kitman, I’m very sad to hear this. I hope you are doing better and that your dialysis helps quickly. 🙏

Hello Kitman, what a traumatic time! You have clearly had to be immensely brave whilst waiting for your readings to settle down. I have experienced bad heartburn....I told my consultant that it felt like my oesophagus was being "napalmed", and I am sure yours was much worse. It is very kind of you to post that you are now ready despite everything to start light infusions now that your catheter is good and clear, so that we can know how you are doing and send you our very best thoughts for your fastest possible recovery from here. With my best wishes, Lily
