Dr George Robinson research SLE

Hi I attended Dr George Robinson diet as therapeutic based on research at UCL for SLE patient at St George's few weeks ago. It was very promising to hear blood fat if controlled could bring cure ..am I right in saying that ? Could someone one advice how do we conduct blood tests for specifically the one being researched by Dr George. If a SLE patient is interested to participate in his research what s next.

I just finished reading some of dr Robinson's research. In a nutshell I read he believes using diet to lower lipids and triglycerides to control cardiovascular disease in lupus patients might help improve the course of autoimmune disease. Most lupus patients actually die of CVD, heart disease. I think he is very correct and his beliefs support my anadotal improvements due to controlling my diet with a huge increase in fiber, exercising a minimum of thirty minutes per day and working hard to reduce stress. My antibodies have all but disappeared since I began this regiment in the winter.

It has been well established that statins might prevent heart disease not by actually lowering cholesterol but by lowering inflammation. Blood fat( lipids) leads to inflammation which leads to disease. Many want to blame their inflamation on a disease but many professionals blame chronic inflammation as a cause of disease not a result. The which comes first enigma. Statins have shown great improvement in APS treatment by lowering antibodies just as has a high resistant starch ( insoluble fiber) diet has seen improvements too.

A Cholesterol and triglycerides test measure lipids and are good indicators to heart health.

Very important topic, right? It is surprising that doctors do not counsel patients, particularly those with autoimmune disease, about diet and exercise. You are doing all the right things! I wonder if more rheumatologists are sending their patients to preventive cardiologists.

The statins seem to have anti-inflammatory properties. Dramatically lowering LDL can help prevent heart attacks in high risk patients. Unfortunately, statins don’t seem to prevent CAD in lupus patients. Maybe you or others have access to more encouraging research.

For now, I will try to stick to my diet. I miss the ice cream! 😩

I like to not restrict anything that does not outwardly cause me distress ( to much milk makes me ill) so have an ice cream from time to time! I have it easy I like sorbet better anyway.

As to CAD, as of 2017, at least seven studies showed a correlation to less cardiovascular events in lupus patients on statins compared to those not on statins. The largest study supporting the benefits of statins was very biased and had control flaws though. Due to the serious side effects they are still not usually recommended unless one has a bad cholesterol ratio.

It is hot so maybe a kids cup today!

That is interesting. Thanks. The one study I found showed disappointing results. So that is encouraging.
