Ultrasound of hands

Hey,

Today I was back at guys hospital to get the ultrasound done of my hands and wrists.

The man doing the scan said there were no signs of active inflammation. My appt to see someone is now end of August.

So what does this mean for me ? Does anyone know?

My hands are always swollen and they hurt especially in the morning .

It helps rule out RA but other causes can still be investigated. Good luck.

I was diagnosed with RA at the same time I was told I had lupus. Can you still have RA if there is no active inflammation?

It is often used to determine if RA is causing the swelling. You can have RA but other conditions could be causing the hand issue. I think with RA already they were looking to see if you had inflamation of joints as your cause of symptoms rather than edema, nerve or other causes, like water retention. Now you should ask about what other than inflamation is causing your hand issues. Good luck.

Oh ok thank you.

I definitely think I still have RA.

Hopefully in August they can tell me something. Thankfully that isn’t to far away!

Hi loulamb, great seeing your post. No signs of active inflammation means your not in a flare and the treatment is controlling your symptoms!. BUT, sometimes the inflammation we have doesn't show hence you still having painful swollen hands first thing!. It will be interesting what they say at your appt in Aug. They might change your diagnosis to lupus only as it doesn't have the same joint damage as RA!. Let us know how it goes. How's work?. Soon be school hols. Xx

I’ve only been on hydroxy for 2 weeks so don’t think it would make that much of a difference.

I’m glad August isn’t to far away for my appt.

counting down the days till summer holidays!! I’m on reduced hours until end of term just because I hadn’t been well.

Looking forward to a week away in Clacton🙂🙂

Hi loulamb

I hadnt been on Hydroxy long either and I started to have benefits quickly so it's possible Lou lamb!. As you say its not long till your appt in Aug when you can talk about all this!. Will be good!. I'm sorry you haven't been well and so had to reduce your hours!. You've done so well coping with work and illness, it's hard!. You'll love the holidays and I hope you have a great time in Clacton!. Let us know how the appt goes. Best of luckXx

I think it’s complicated,when I was an inpatient,my RA was 343.

When I had tests, showed nonsigns of RA.

HOWEVER8 months down the line, have been diagnosed with lupus and RA- after loads more tests.

Sorry can’t be of any use with your question
