Hi Buckley123. Well, that's spooky timing...exactly the same thing's just happened to me 😕.

I've known for a long time that my body no longer likes the sun. But nevertheless, was surprised when I sat in the garden for a cup of tea and could feel the sun burning through my jeans. In ten minutes!

Also - on a recent hour long journey to a hospital appointment, my face turned into a red burning blobby mess - from the sun shining through the car window 🤷‍♀️.

No idea if this is due to meds (prednisilone and mycophenolate) or to the Lupus...or perhaps a combination of all three (though it does pre-date the meds but has been worse since on them).

I now wear factor 50 sun cream, hats and sunglasses, avoid shorts and short sleeve shirts...and avoid being in direct sunlight.

The good news is no one can see my blue lacy legs and bruises 🤣🤣

Seems I've become a shady person 😎xx

Yes mine was in minutes too very strange I too get red face through the car window but I direct heat i seem to be ok with maybe it’s hotter thro something else ie jeans or a window.

My legs ached for half hour after I felt so ill. Up till now no sun has ever really effected me only ever so slightly on my cheeks. I’m on low dose of hydro 200 I think 💭 very odd felt like I could pass out after xxx

Yes...know what you mean. I used to love being out in the sun and had no problems. Used to live near the sea and spent hours on the beach, water skiing and just lounging about.

Forgot to say...being in the sun now makes me feel very ill too...almost like I've got 'flu. Think some here have mentioned before that for them, being out in the sun can induce a Lupus (or autoimmune) flare.

Sorry it's got you too 🤷‍♀️😕 xx

I sweat very little so all of my skin turns bright red when over heated. It resolves in hours unlike a lupus rash. My daughter has what is conscidered benign LR and both heat and cold cause hers. The pediatrician believes at this point it is only idiopathic as she has not met any disease criteria. Did your discoloration resolve or is it still present?

Resolved as 10 mins after leaving the sun it really did burn within minutes. Very odd for me. I also do not sweat but my face becomes red in the car thro the window and in the sun xx

I think your temps are also unusually high presently too and climate change has made uv stronger as well. Denim, cotton shirt, car windows all allow uv through. Many skin cancer patients get it on the side of their body that aims the office window in fact. This is why uv clothing is so popular in areas with brighter weather. With or without autoimmune disease uv protection is important now more than ever. If it resolved so quickly I think it may have been a heat reaction, which causes nausea too but you should ask at your next appointment. And start using uv protection in these hot sunny days more regularly. Xo

That’s true could be although I literally do not react to anything my skin is like leather nothing changes it even sun beds do not tan me so for me to be irritated by the sun/heat is new but not enough for anything else I seem to sit on the fence with a lot of things 😂😂🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

HydroQ can make you more sun sensitive

I get that flu washed out feeling but strangely not every time, more sun responsive when it’s the TOTM x

The sun can bring a lupus flare even when you do not have any redness at all. It happened to me and put me in the hospital.

Note that harmful uv light can get through the tiny holes in any fabric/cloth and thus damage the skin, irritate it and cause inflammation, red rashes etc.🥵

Better to wear long sleeved shirts and loose fitting clothes in layers which blocks light better.

Sunlight penetrates glass!🥵

Hold up a piece of denim fabric when out and see the light rays getting through.

Lupus sufferers must take care!

I do believe we become more body aware when something doesn’t feel right. I always thought my livedo was normal but now I’m aware I’ve got it everywhere and for me it isn’t normal 🙄x
