Good morning all has anyone heard of someone having Lupus flares but all bloods showing normal even though you have an infection , it keeps happening, also just been referred to Manchester Rheumatology , left home at 6 am ( need to be early or anxiety will explode) got there in enough time to get a cup of tea, find the loo and where to go ,

When I get in to see new doctor I have three medical students ( they have to learn) sat there very silently behind me ,I am asked to go through family medical history and mine and when and how I was diagnosed with lupus, sjogrens, and all other problems that has appeared and now herniation of tonsils in the cerebellum with spots on brain as they have no notes for me so anxiety was not good and just to top it off the fire alarm goes off ,false alarm after 1/2 hour “ someone left lid open on hot water boiler and steam set it off 😱🤕🥵. Sorry for rant just can’t stop thinking about everything I forget to tell them

Hi there,

I’ve previously had a bad infection and it takes time to show up sometimes. What sort of infection is it that you have?

I’m with rheumatology in Manchester, I have Dr Parker who is really good. I also forget to ask a lot of things at my appointments, it’s handy to write a note to yourself of things you need to cover. Don’t fret too much you’ll have another opportunity. You should have been asked if it’s ok to have the medical students, if you feel uncomfortable just let the doctor know you do.

As already replayed, it does take time for bloods to show raised infection markers. Take care

I have no objection to medical students sitting in as part of their studies, but sitting behind me? Absolutely not.

Yes you can have a flare with blood work staying normal. Medical science didn't discover yet all the possible flare markers. It is still under investigation, so in the future we will be able to determine a flare w blood work.

I can imagine how stressful that was — new doctor, new place, no notes, alarms going off. I agree with Lupuknits that you certainly could tell the consultant having the students behind you made you uncomfortable. I don’t like it either when it is one of my doctor’s « teaching » rotations and a resident is doing an exam and taking a long time. Just now, I am having coffee among several medical students at a cafe and thinking how much they would all benefit from hearing your story. You may have been nervous — anyone would have been — but you did those students a big favor. A textbook could never provide what you provided. Hope you are doing better!
