Prolonged cough

Hi, I have Lupus Nephritis. Has anyone had a cough that has lasted for 8 weeks or more? I have had 3 courses of antibiotics and still have this annoying cough. Sometimes it produces clear mucus and sometimes yellow but not very much of it. x

Hi, have you not been sent for a chest x-ray or more importantly a CT scan. The scan does show a better picture of what's going on. Don't leave it to long before discussing this with your doctor as a persistent cough is not normal. Good luck and good health. X

Hi

I have had a cough that has last exactly 8 weeks. I did have a chest infection and it took 2 courses of antibiotics to shift it. Nearly ended up with another chest infection last week but thankfully managed to avoid it using my 'little tricks'.

Firstly though I would get it checked out again by your GP then if it is still a case of the last of a chesty cough here are my tricks:

1 - LOADS of rest - can't emphasis this enough

2 - steam inhalation 3 times a day, equally spaced, no need to put anything in the water, it's the steam itself that does the trick (pharmacist said no need to add anything)

3 - turmeric with milk, twice a day, 1/4tsp of ground turmeric in half a cup of hot FULL fat milk. Do not have anything to eat or drink for at least 0.5hrs after having the drink so it continues to coat the oesophagus. An old Indian + Chinese cure for chesty coughs - used for 4000 years!

4 - ginger tea - slice of fresh ginger

5 - hot toddy - just before bed works for me.

All the best.

Hi Joy, thank you for the info and tips, I will try them straight away. I've been to my Rheumy, Renal Consultants and Gp and they said a particularly nasty cough is doing the rounds and my cough is upper respiratory and not a chest infection yet, so on another set of antibiotics. I've given a sputum test as well because Dr says the infection can colonise so need the right meds for it.

They obviously don't feel the need to send me for a chest xray because as all of us Lupus sufferers know we are prone to infection and more so because ai take steroids and Azithiprine.

Thanks again, Liesa x

Good to hear you have been to the doc etc.

Yes there has been a very nasty cough circulating here too, that's the one I have had for 2 weeks, but thankfully it's almost given up on me now.

I have UCTD with lung involvement. Lung issue has remained v mild with no progression since diagnosis thankfully but I am SUPER sensitive now to 'getting on the case'. As all bugs tend to go straight to my chest (my weak point now).

So as soon as I feel the first sign of a bug heading into my chest I employee the list I gave you and thus far it has worked. I have not had a chest infection since Jan 2013.

Joy x
