Anyone ever had a postive smooth muscle blood test? I've had 2 postive tests now, however I have been told it's something to do with the liver, but no one has gone into much information about it..

I'm postive for Sjogren's, but lupus test is inconclusive.

Hi there. Your rheumatologist should be able to explain as I’ve never had smooth muscle blood test to my knowledge.

I do have Sjögren’s (negative specific blood markers but ANA and lip biopsy positive). But I have heard of this test so looked it up and it seems to be used to test for autoimmune hepatitis - which I know can be a Sjögren’s related extraglandular problem or comorbidity. Whoever ordered this test should be able to clarify and send you for appropriate tests and specialist - maybe a liver specialist.

I think blood markers for Sjögren’s suggest this could be your main condition rather than Lupus - but they are very similar and often overlap so I wouldn’t get too fussed about which you have as both are systemic autoimmune diseases.

Hi hun, thanks for the reply, I'm going seeing the Rehutholgist Tuesday, so hopefully will know more about it then.

Yes your right lupus & Sjogren's are quite similar, it's just very frustrating though.. xx

I was a nurse for 40 years and have never heard of that test. Can you give more info on what the indicators for having the test done are? It is of great interest to me because I have lupus and I do have muscle involvement. Best regards, Nan

I did look it up and a positive test is indicative of auto immune liver inflammation. I would think your doctor would want to follow up on that. My best to you. Xo Nan

Hi Nan, I'd heard of this test myself, but my consultant odered some special blood tests because of my symptoms. Once I hear back off the consultant, I can give you more information about it.
