Low ferritin

I know that ferritin is usually high in autoimmune disease but honestly I have results from years ago where my ferritin sat nicely around 35... now I take iron tablets and I eat better than ever before- but even with all this- my ferritin levels are stil only 25.

They are considering an infusion.

I do get a swollen tummy and often feel a bit sick but doesn’t everyone!!? haemoglobilin levels are always ok on investigation.

Anyone else??!?? Can’t find much on google scholar!

I can only share my own experience...I (my body that is) never seem to play by the rules!

I have been a long distance runner for 40 years and have been known to fight anemia because of high mileage, even before autoimmune came into view. Before I was diagnosed (and later Undiagnosed) with seronegRA, my ferritin was down to 3 with Hb @12.1-13. My diet has always been that of an athlete and I tried every kind of supplement before my hematologist decided an Inofer infusion was the only remaining option. That was 2 years ago and it has remained above 100 (my cutoff Before I have to have another infusion). I am still followed with labs every 12 weeks.

I think many of us with AI have problems with our guts on the absorption part as well as the ferritin being unavailable for use which is why sometimes hematologists are consulted to begin with. I hope this helps. If you have more questions, ask. I'll answer if I know.🙂🤓
