Hi Pookavi.

I got Dr B's book a few years ago when I 1st got dignosed. I talked about going vegan with one of my specialists, who said it wasn't a good idea at all and won't help. Anyway after years of not getting better and trying a range of nasty drugs that dodnt work for me, I went vegan last Aug. I drink Brookes suggested green smoothies most days. This comprises of around 400g of spinach, 2 bananas and frozen berries + 2 tbs of chia seeds, I use water or unsweetened almond milk. I will have this for breakfast after having celery juice (it's yuck!) And for a snack and lunch, I then have a vegan meal with loads of veg.

Being plant based is a lot easier than I thought it would be, even my meat and milk loving husband is vegan 99% of the time!

I can't say it has made me lose weight which I was hoping for, but Im finding it easier to control my steroid weight gain. Also my cholesterol levels have dropped from 5.9 to 5.1 and my blood sugars are more than normal. So it has helped to fight the nasty side effects of the drugs I'm on. Also for the 1st time since being dignosed my ESR was in the black of normal range which is amazing!! However I am far from being better, and though it has improved my lupus and the impact it has on my life I'm don't feel 100%, just better.

I think to do its Brookes way you need to just have the green smoothies and nothing else. Until I can get my steroids down I can't seem to fully commit to this. It's definitely worth being a vegan ! And trying out Dr B's protocol, however it takes time to see results. There are so many YouTube vids to help.

Best of good and tell us how it goes.

I posted about Brooke some time back and many cried out that it was all snake oil and can't be done. But like you said the drugs we are supplied with don't cure anything. They only provide symptom relief. And potentially lead to problems from side effects.

I believe the idea behind Brookes approach is to flood the body with nutrition and the exercise bit helps the body over time.

I believe that a well nourished body has a better chance of fighting back against whatever is leading an attack, and whole foods provide much more nutrition than many of the 'food' items that are included in many people's diets these days. You can still get vegan junk food but if ingesting fruit and vegetables in their unprocessed forms you are likely to get a much higher nutritional load.

This is why I believe she had good results.

Btw in my case going easy on the carbohydrates enables easy weight loss.

I believe we are all different and we all need to manage our symptoms according to our own type.

Good nutrition without all the junk that is in food these days was a good start for me - smoothies sometimes, but not others and not every day.

Listening to the body is another.

Exercise, relaxation, standing up for one self, stress management, fresh air and sunlight, good company, time out alone are just some of the ways I manage my immune system problems.

Some people need some high protein, whilst others may not.

O blood group was the first group on the earth and generally have not evolved as much as those groups that followed who can survive on vegan it appears.

It is not that simple though as my father was O blood group and mother A, so sometimes my body needs A diet and others O. A good nutritionist kinesiologist found this out from my body and that is why she taught me to muscle test myself.

No-one can actually tell someone else what to eat, but good nutrition has got to be the best.

Some have compromised digestion systems, so raw is not always best for them to absorb - steamed is best for me because I know my digestion and absorption is not up to scratch.

I understand that some people work well with going vegan. Others (like me) have done the AIP route. It certainly didn't 'cure' me, but I think not eating processed food or stuffing up on break and grains helps my digestion. I'm curious about the vegan route (partly because there's so many vegan restaurants where I live, and I like going out to eat) but I'm not going to get back on any carby stuff beyond root veg until I reduce the pred.
