Blood tests confusing

Hi all, my husband has just had his blood test results which are supposed to be normal. He saw a consultant 5 days ago who diagnosed SCLE & took a biopsy. My question is - is t possible to have SCLE without raised ANA or other markers?

I have SCLE with no markers and I've read that it's quite common with this form.

Hi Sandibea,

Around 5% of people who have SLE will not have a 'positive' ANA test result.

Although dsDNA antibodies are very specific for lupus (as they are not typically seen in any other condition or in healthy population) only approximately 60% of people with SLE will test ‘positive’. Therefore if someone is positive for these antibodies, it often means they have lupus, but if they are negative it does not necessarily mean they do not have lupus.
