PIP Suspense

Since completing my "check up" PIP form and sending it back by the due date of 23 March, I received a text from DWP on 20 April to say thank you and they'll let me know if I need another assessment. They also asked me to let them know if there have been any changes. There have: my psychiatrist has upped my mood stabiliser twice since sending the form in.

After a very long wait, I got through to a brisk young woman who kept telling me to put it on the form. After I managed to get it through to her that I had sent the form in March and I was responding to the text, she pulled up my record. I spelled out the med, told her the strength on the form and the strength now.

That was it. No proof required. I'm kind of hoping for the best. Please not another assessment.

I know this is probably a daft question lupiknits but how do you get PIP when you have lupus? I have gone over the form in case I have to fill one in and it seems to me you have to have mental health problems to qualify for anything. none of my health issues are covered any more. Do many lupus people get it? because all of my problems are invisible and vary minute to minute most of the time I look fine, even my own parents don't seem to find anything wrong with me. It all seems to be on the inside which I guess I am hiding too well if even my mother can't see it. how do you convince someone that fatigue is not just laziness?

I will cross my fingers for you and hope all goes well.

I’ve been looking into pip today. I could really do with some extra help for my children. Extra child care, cooked dinners . But pip seems to be directly aimed at your own requirements. Auto immune illnesses are on their list as can apply for. You need the proof and medication details and a lot of other things. I did try to ring them but I was on hold for too long.

Have a read up about it. Hmrc website I was reading earlier

Yes, you do need lots of proof. Consultants letters, medication etc. When I had to apply for PIP after having DLA, I was helped enormously by the Welfare Rights Officer from my Council, who actually filled it in for me. The form needs to be completed as you are on your worst day. That came as quite a shock to me as I hadn't realised hiw bad it all was.

When it comes to things like preparing a meal I'm not sure whether it matters whether it's for youself or for others as well. You have to eat.

I don't think it's easier for those with mental health problems. A charity took DWP to court this year to argue that they had downplayed the needs of those with mental health problems. DWP have been left with the task of reviewing hundreds of those applications to see if they have been underpaid.

I have no consultant letters and I can't take any medication as I seem to be intolerant to it all. the only thing I take is paracetamol, amlodipine for high blood pressure and apixaban for blood clots, everything else makes me feel like I have a migraine and the dizziness leaves me feeling too sick to eat or drink. one assessor I saw a few years ago said as I wasn't on medication it obviously wasn't too serious and I was just put in the wrag group. surely drug intolerance is an illness in itself
