Great quote that applies to us all??

‘Grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference’

I copied this quote from AA (alcoholics rather than vehicle rescue although probably applies to them too 😂)

I think it really applies to those of us with chronic diseases? I’m going to try very hard to follow it (although struggle with the wisdom part! 🙄).

Has anyone achieved any/ all of it?

X

I've good philosophy, good 👍 to try to live by, a life's work for me. Been trying to note the moments that i feel like 👌 ok and enjoy them.... But ours seem to be a very day to day existence that I have not got my head around.... Thanks for sharing ML

No I think it’s the sudden change from ok to very not ok that is so hard for us isn’t it? You’re right that it’s best to focus on the good moments. Hope you’re having enough of those recently x

My mum used to quote that one. She had a plaque of it on her wall

It was very much a change for me, seemed fine in my 40s, then I hit my 50s and the problems started. Now 71 and still struggling to come to terms with pain and not being able to move around like I used to. Most of it comes from OA at the moment. The mild SLE I was diagnosed with in 2005 is under control but it still gives me bad days, mostly fatigue and a general feeling of being unwell. I'm never sure whether the pains from OA or lupus

It was talking to a health trainer last year at my gps that made me realise I hadnt accepted I was poorly and that life would never be the same again...I'm a slow learner

Oh sorry you’re struggling with bad days, pain, fatigue and acceptance 🙁 I think we almost all have difficulties with these things. I think I could accept the disease better without the fatigue - that’s the one thing I still haven’t learnt to accept and keep pushing and pushing to overcome, usually with the reverse outcome than I wanted of then feeling even worse 🙄

I’m a slow learner too but I think if we accept everything as the new normal we maybe don’t strive enough to get to as good a new normal as we can be? As that ‘normal’ is different for all of us at different stages it’s so hard because we never really what to accept and what to try and change.

I hope you get lots of good days soon x
