Naproxen blues

Hi alll, I’ve been prescribed naproxen 2x250mg a day to bring my flare under control. Only been on it for a week so far and rheumatologist has prescribed x2 months worth. Pain is excruciating and so immobile. Anyone have any advice or experience of how long it takes for this medication to start to take effect? Many thanks.

If it hasn't touched the pain in a week I'd say it probably won't work.

Does this help?

They say clearly you need to work with your doctor to find the best for you - and I'd say it might not be Naproxen. I suppose they may be using it as being claimed to have fewest gastric effects.

I found Naproxin not very helpful, and worse, for me it caused sweating and fainting. Steroids were far more helpful as an emergency measure (unfortunately though I'm still on them).

Hi Sin123,

In my experience Naproxen really haven't helped pain in a very very long time. Before I was diagnosed and paon/swelling was very mild in comparison to now I would say that they did help make a difference but again my symptoms were much more mild then. With my pain and swelling now only prednisone helps brings the pain under control but I hate taking them. I had an injection of them which was much better but the effects didn't last very long so I've had to take them orally again.

I would definitely say to go back to your GP and let him/her know that they're not helping at all.

Lots of luck xx

I went to see my rheumatologist yesterday as became so desperate with the pain. Thankfully she put me on steroids and already I can feel an improvement. Such a relief!
