Carpal Tunnel a life saver.

In my last post I talked about my holiday and results of Carpal Tunnel tests. Last Wednesday I went in for review with GP, and she had results that I should have surgery. She asked if I wanted to be referred to local doctor that does these surgeries. I said that I would like to talk to Rheumi about it at end of month, and she agreed to wait until then. This past Monday I received call from surgeons office saying that they had a cancellation and would I like to come in for talk. So I went with my husband to see what he had to say. He is a very nice man, no pressure, just explained what was going on and what the surgery involved. He said, "So do you think this is something that you are ready to do?" I said Yes, he said "OK, we can do tomorrow!" My husband said no, that was too soon, and the doctor said well I will put you on list at hospital and they will call when space and if you are ready say yes. On way home my husband and I discussed again and decided there was no point in waiting, so went back and confirmed for yesterday.

Yesterday I showed up for surgery, when starting to prep me they called it off and sent me to emergency where I was very quickly into Trauma unit. My BP was 230/110 and heart rate 38 to 40. Within a couple of hours I was scheduled for Air Ambulance to larger city with specialists. Unfortunately, they don't have bed for me yet and the small valley that we live in is completely socked in. They have said I will be getting a pacemaker when I get there and possibly other issues corrected. So now I sit in bed plugged into machines and wait for phone call to say go. My BP has been brought down to 155/70, but heart rate still low and I am told to just rest. I know now why I have been feeling so tired and I am looking forward to getting this over with. Certainly was not expecting anything like this, was thinking it was just Lupus, which we can't do.

I am so glad that I was called in so quickly to see surgeon, or I probably would have ended up a lot sicker. So morel of this story, "Go with your first instincts, and don't let your husband change your mind". Carpal Tunnel probably saved my life.

Heck Chapter what a dramatic time you’ve had when expecting a straightforward minor procedure?! Glad you’re in good hands but do they know what caused your BP to soar? Mine often gets pretty high but nothing in that league thankfully - hope you make a good recover soon! 🤞💐

They said BP went up because my heart was pumping so slow that the veins had to work very hard to get blood around ??? Something like that I think.

Well I am still siting in hospital waiting for air ambulance. They said they were coming last night, then it was too late so they called off. I would think they should be on way now but have had no update. They have bed for me in Kelowna but just can't get me there yet. Just heard while typing this that they will be here to get me in 2 hours. Makes me a bit nervous, but good news. My blood pressure is holding 150/75 but heart rate still bouncing around, low last night 32 now 45. With good luck I will be home again by Sunday.

I am home now. Procedure was done on Friday, few complications, but left hospital yesterday after ultra sound and test again that Pacemaker was doing its job properly. Got home late yesterday afternoon, happy to be in own bed. I do have moments of feeling a bit alone with this, fear of what could have or might happen, but mostly I am OK. I was happy to hear from Cardiologist that this was not a life style thing, there was nothing I could have done differently to prevent, was just what happens sometimes. I have had enough blood tests, exrays, ECG's, and ultrasounds in the last week that if anything else was going on they should have seen it, so I should be good for awhile, right?

Now I have a month of being spoiled before I start getting back to normal (whatever that might be).
