Hi I am new to site. I have hypothyroidism but I had an autoimmune profile show up positive anti nuclear antibodies (Hep2 speckled) and positive anti smooth muscle antibodies? Also get elevated plasma viscosity levels. Could this be lupus or sjogrens? I get a lot of dry eye and dry mouth at times.
Advice appreciated

We can’t advise on medical matters but you may well have Sjögren’s if you have hypothyroidism, Sicca, high PV and are ANA positive. I certainly have all of these too although my ANA is a different pattern to yours.
60% are anti Ro and La positive and not sure about the antibody you’ve mentioned - maybe long name for one of these? Anyway the only person who can diagnose you is a consultant rheumatologist - and if you have no other rheumatic disease and are Ro & La negative then they would need to take a lip biopsy of your minor salivary glands to confirm.
Best of luck getting to the bottom of things - hope others here know more about the anti smooth muscle antibody result perhaps.

An ANA test gives an indication on whether a person may or may not have an autoimmune condition. It does not provide sufficient evidence to confirm a diagnosis of lupus. Further testing would be required to accurately identify the cause of your symptoms. To find out how lupus is diagnosed, you can read our blog article here: lupusuk.org.uk/getting-diag...
Although you have not been diagnosed with lupus, around a third of people with lupus have some sort of eye related matter such as ‘dry eyes’. Some lupus patients also experience dryness of the mouth which leads to sore throats, coughing and difficulty swallowing dry foods. We published a factsheet on ‘LUPUS: The Mouth, Nose and Eyes’ which I hope you will find helpful: lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u...
