I am in my early 70's and have had fibromyalgia for years. I have a full and happy life but have questions about this old age and things happening.

Yes, I know what you mean, is it lupus or just, as you say age. Having said that I look at others around same age as me 70 and they are bouncing.

Most of the time I am very active....I am so use to living with fibro that it is just part of my day. The more you move, the better you feel. I was first told i had lupus and that is because Fibromyalgia was almost unknown...

I thought Fibro was more commonly diagnosed in younger people? Have you both had Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) excluded?

I was diagnosed in my late 40's. It took many years to come up with my problem. I was first told i had Lupus .... I do not have RA. New systems about fibro come up everyday ... never know if the problem is fibro or heart, back, eyes. Never assume that everything is caused by fibro, especially as we get older.

Sounds wise to me. However if the pain worsens then please go to your GP and ask to have ESR or PV and CRP checked. If Fibro your inflammation levels would probably be low/normal but if PMR your inflammation levels in blood would likely be high.

GeeGee1943 I am 60 yrs old now and have had Fibromyalgia since I was 38yrs. I broke my back 2yrs ago and had to go to rehab. Whilst I was there a Doctor came to see me because he had been reviewing my case. He was concerned that I had been on fairly strong meds for a long time to help control the severe case of Fibromyalgia, and he asked if I would like to come off of them. "Yes" I said. He said he would hook me up to a morphine drip into my stomach and within 2 weeks I would be free of addictive meds. Now the clincher is that he also said that there has been quite a bit of success with a new non-addictive med used for Fibromyalgia and would I like to try and see if it will work for me. Again "yes" I said. So he started me on it while I was detoxing so it can have a chance to get into my system. I have to say I have been pain free since then. I still have Fibromyalgia and the pressure points but the new med has stopped the pain. I live in Australia so the med name may be different there but your GP. will know what it is. It's called Lyrica and he put me on a dose of 75mg twice a day, morning and early evening. Anything other than this dose will more than likely be ineffective. A doctor without the knowledge put my daughter on it but on a lesser dose and making her take it far too late in the evening. She is now on the right dose and doing really well too. Hope this helps you. Try not to worry about age as worry alone can make you ill. Be better soon.
