Intermittent eyesight issues

Hi all,

I know that eyesight changes can be a side effect of Hydroxy, but this has been happening since before I started meds.

Does anyone find that their eyesight is a bit blurry some days, but perfectly fine on others? I wear glasses, but some days my vision is blurry even with them on. Other days I can see fairly well even without my glasses. I'm just trying to work out if it's a 'Lupus' thing, or just me!

I have that - sometimes its just one eye - but I've only been on meds for just over a month and only got formally diagnosed three months ago. I'd been assuming it was age/sleep deprivation/tiredness but now I'm not so sure. Definitely feels fatigue related.

But I have no idea what causes it. I hope some experienced people will be able to respond.

Hi dear. That happens to me but I'm not on hydroxy, I think my eyesight is blurry the very same day I have pain or inflammation. Lupus thing?

No idea... I just don't have the energy to ask for an ophtalmologist consult LOL. Following up on this post see what others share.

Yep, this is a regular thing for me. The past week my vision has been awful even with glasses (I mistook a water trough for a deer in a field, much to the amusement of my family! I'm the former hunter!). Sometimes this is due to dry eyes so I keep some artificial tears on hand, and sometimes if the stretch is longer than a few weeks I go in for an eye test.

This had been a problem for many years (along with other dry eye signs & symptoms). Then my NHS ophthalmologist added ikervis ciclosporin eye drops to my daily combined therapy dry eye treatment plan and, hey presto, my eyes are hardly ever blurry now...so long as I conscientiously stick to all my eye treatments. In my case blurriness is part of my long term cornea inflammation (due mainly to to early onset sjogrens)

But definitely best to get this ckecked by your gp/optician...re macular degeneration (can be caused by hydroxy in a v few patients) & glaucoma...

It had never occurred to me that it might be due to dry eyes. I've not been diagnosed with Sjorgrens or anything, although I've been complaining of a dry mouth for 28 years! I'll speak to the ophthalmologist when I have my appointment in a few weeks and see what he says.

Are they blurry or do you feel as if your prescription is not sufficient, as if you need new glasses?

If the latter occurs on an intermittent basis, check your blood pressure, it may be dropping. This thing happens in POTS or autonomic dysfunction - something many of us aren't aware we have if symptoms are below radar.

That's interesting! I do sometimes feel like my glasses aren't strong enough, and other times that they're too strong (if that makes any sense?). I only had my eyes tested at the optician a few weeks ago and have new glasses. I mentioned to him that things go blurry and he wasn't able to explain it, but since I've got an appointment with the hospital ophthalmologist soon, I'll ask him.

It would also explain the weird bouts of dizziness I get some days? It's not meníeres, more like feeling a bit faint, so a drop in blood pressure would fit with that, I think?

The ophthalmologist won't be able to help, nor the opticians. I saw many ophthalmos and each time my visual fields and the vision tests came back normal, actually I had better vision than many in my age group. It was frustrating to me and to them. Until one day I measured my BP while the eye sight was playing up and bingo. It doesn't need to drop a lot to feel it in the eyes.

But check the dryness as well, of course.
