I woke up today with a pain above my right breast, when I breathe in it's worse. Also have pain in right shoulder blade and under armpit when I move. Any advise?

Hi Dinkyop1,

I would get this checked out with your GP asap. I had similar pain in the same area as you & it turned out to be pleurisy which I'd never even heard of before. Pleurisy is actually inflammation of the tissue between the lungs and ribcage. Hope you feel better soon but do go see your GP. Take care

I agree with Glen. Get to a doctor asap. Any kind of pain in this area needs quick attention. It might be something or nothing, but please get help.

I have a pleural effusion which is fluid between the lung and ribcage, when I take a deep breath, sneeze or yawn I get pain in the rib area. Please see your GP or Rheumatologist and insist they send you for a chest x ray, mine kept fobbing me off saying it was a muscle strain for months. They say the fluid is minimal, but I have got an appointment for CT scan. The pain definitely isn't as bad.

Sorry the reply sent before I finished, last part should say the pain definitely isn't as bad now, the GP never prescribed anything, but I am on prednisolone, hydroxychloroquine and naproxen for Lupus. I have had pleural effusion for 3 months, I think if they gave me some antibiotics in the beginning it wouldn't have gone on so long, but you do think they know best.
