Normal?
Hi there Jennyall,
When anyone is ill their white blood count will change, with Lupus it does drop!
You may get a blood transfusion or they may just leave it to see if it improves, for me i had to have a transfusion.
No, not abnormal. mine is always low. My doctor says that my body is almost always fighting something. Two months ago he sent me to a hematologist because it had dropped even more than usual. Thank God nothing bad. Doctor said it's the lupus and I need more B12
There are many reasons your white blood count can drop. Certain medications or infection can cause this. Lupus can also also attack your white blood cells. Only your doctor can tell you the cause. Your GP may want to monitor your counts or have you repeat the blood test to make sure it does not drop further.
Hi Jennyall12,
According to The Lupus Encyclopedia, “SLE can sometimes cause the white blood cell count to be lower than normal. This is called leukopenia…” The enecylopedia states that “a low white blood cell count can be due to the drugs used to treat SLE”.
