Hi Hidden ,

The symptoms that people with lupus experience differ from person to person. There are many possible symptoms that lupus can cause. If you'd like to learn more about lupus, I recommend taking a look at our website at lupusuk.org.uk

Hi Georgia-11833 ,

I can't find any information that suggests that macular puckers can be linked to lupus, but that doesn't necessarily rule it out as a cause. Have you asked your consultant about this?

My eye dr says it's Plaquenil that causes it. It's even called Plaquenil retinopathy.

Hi Georgia-11833 ,

It is important to bear in mind that retinal toxicity from hydroxychloroquine is very rare. Anybody taking the drug should have their eyes checked every twelve months. The risk is only generally considered to be in some people when the cumulative dose over a number of years gets large enough.

I did give you all detail. I already have a significant enough macular pucker on right eye to be scheduled for surgery which isn't a really pleasant procedure as far as recuperation goes. I also have a macular pucker in my left eye but not significant enough to do surgery.

I'm working with a Retinologist as well as an Opthalmologist - first a small cataract will be removed from right eye by Opthal and then the MP removed when able by Retinologist.

I did speak with both today to let them know I have Lupus.

Thank you for your help!

Georgia
