Cervical spondylitis...

As I understand it, this kind of arthritis is common and just down to wear and tear... age. (I've had it 5 years, since I was 40)

My question is this, is/could it, be associated with lupus?

For the last few days I've had terrible neck pain accompanied by a headache. I've also been flaring this past few weeks, so I just wondered if this kind of arthritis could be one of the various joint pains I get with lupus or is it just coincidence???

Oddly enough, I was listening to BBC radio yesterday when an eminent research rheumatologist specialist in osteo arthritis was explaining current cutting edge thinking on arthritis related to spondylosis, injury, wear & tear etc...if I got what she was saying right, it was that GUESS WHAT: turns out the medical establishment has spent centuries missing the more profound points of osteo arthritis & has simply focused instead on treating symptoms + superficial causative factors....NOT what current research is proving are the true more profound underlying causes, which are (drum roll) to do with immune dysfunction & connective tissue disorder...OH MY 🤗. And the goal of researchers like her, is to manage patient via personalised prescribing preventatively so as to avoid the need for joint replacements etc etc due to osteo arthritis...HURRAH 👍👍👍😆

like you, I've managed life long spondylosis (alongside infant onset lupus & ehlers danlos. My cervical damage was caused mainly by a fall on head from height @ 7 years old) so know quite a lot about the investigation, diagnosis, the treatments, managements, prognoses...enough to know that @ 63 my past 6 years on daily oral combined therapy lupus meds have seen my spondylosis + widespread osteo arthritis trouble me less than ever 😉

That's really interesting coco.

I have always thought that fair enough, without an accompanying auto immune disease... MAYBE it's possible to have "wear and tear" in multiple joints... but surely unlikely. Add the AI disease and the probability surely decreases hugely for it not to be connected?

One day they will treat us holistically... Until then we can try to treat ourselves holistically. 😊

I have problems with my neck and back and was told it was cervical spondylosis only last week by rheumatologist and that it was wear and tear. I have also mild lupus and fibromyalgia. He said my lupus at the moment is' quiet', blood tests show its inactive but kept me on medication. Yet my fingers are swollen and sore at the joints. I wonder if they will ever know if there are links. Maybe reading this site and how many of us have similar problems that are not thought to be lupus related would tell them more and that they are a part of lupus
