I have a few symptoms for lupus and my mum past away from lupus but when I called the doctors to book an appointment to get tested, they refused me because "I don't have the serious major symptoms" not sure on what to do, it keeps playing in my mind that I couldn't have it and I just want to put my mind at ease :(

Hi GJS123 ,

I'm sorry to hear that your doctor has not taken your concern seriously. What symptoms have you been experiencing?

If you are not happy with your current GP, perhaps you could look at changing to somebody who may be more understanding? You can read more about changing GP here - citizensadvice.org.uk/healt...

I've been experiencing hair loss but not in massive clumps, strands but I lose a lot each day, really bad joint paints and sometimes my fingers are really bad that I lose all strength in them and can't even undo a cap on a bottle! I get very bad kidney pains to the point I physically can't walk, I'm just fed up and want to be helped

Hi there - Paul Howard is right - look into changing Doctors - however - if you read other posts we have Mostly all had to fight to be taken seriously. Go to a different doctor and don't mention what you think you might have - just explain symptoms- good luck

I suggest you make an appointment with a different doctor and take someone who knew your mother and knows you well for support.

It always adds weight when there is another person in the consulting room, particularly if they can agree with you on the points you are making.

Make a diary of your symptoms say for a week or two, and write down anything you have done which has made your problem worse, also any medications and how effective they were. Also write a list of your symptoms, emphasising any which your mother also suffered from.

Find out as much information as you can about lupus and explain to the doctor why you think you have it. Remind him that you are likely to have inherited the gene for autoimmune diseases from your mum.

You are not asking him to diagnose you, you are asking him to do a series of blood tests including for inflammation and ANA.

Ask too for a referral to a rheumatologist, although he may want to wait until your blood results are back, before doing so.

I wish you luck, it is unfortunate but true, that you have to be pro active in your own health to get the treatment you deserve.
