Classic sign of anaemia!! It could be worse, coal and soil are also cravings. I buy loads of ice-pops and crunch away on them much to everyone's annoyance.

The haematologist should be able to get to the bottom of it but you should try to get the appointment hurried up, anaemia can be very dangerous. I got iron infusions because mine is iron deficient anaemia. Maybe ask the GP to check his blood again and find out what type of anaemia it is and what can be done to help it. Don't be afraid to question them and push for an earlier appointment.

Bronagh already said it - could be anaemia:

mayoclinic.org/diseases-con...

If the Mayo says it - it isn't an old wive's tale!

There are different sorts of anaemia - folic acid is only for one.

Start keeping a diary and make up a record of his ailments and cravings ready to discuss with consultant , bullet point them so you can tick the topic off as they are dealt with , it's amazing what you will forget and how important it might be , you may have MCTD but don't realise it , the smallest detail can help with a diagnosis! The dr will not mind I do this now every day in fact daughter bought me a daily diary for Mother's Day and the difference it has made to my diagnosis and GP has told me to bring to every consultantation as it has built up a bigger picture !

Good luck

Once he's treated with iron and his hemoglobin normalizes the ice craving should stop. 😍

There are multiple causes for anaemia - and lack of folic acid is just one. Bleeding - even just from piles or gastric polyps - can lead to anaemia.
