I have been seeing a haematologist re my pernicious anaemia and hashimoto symptoms.

Following my last visit I had the blood test printed via my GP surgery and found the following on my results.

DNA antibody,es (deDNA abs) 23 (20 - 200 Positive).

Crithidia Test. Positive.

I was surprised at this because he had not mentioned this to me, so I rang his secretary asking for more info.

I was then told in a phone call from my haemo " positive test do not indicate that you have SLE or antiphospholipid syndrome unless you have symptoms such as crippling muscle pains, severe arthritis, unusual neck like rash on you thighs, stroke, heart attack, DVT, pulmonary embolism or miscarriage and in absence of symptoms the test is of dubious meaning"

I do actually have arthritis , though admittedly not "crippling" also muscle pains and other symptoms which are often associated with the autoimmune illnesses which I have already been diagnosed with.

I was wondering if I should pursue this matter and would be very grateful for any comments.

Hi Pugdogs10. I know practically nothing about Lupus (yet)...just being investigated, by a rheumatologist, to see if I have it.

Lupus is usually 'dealt with' by a rheumatologist, who will be much more knowledgable about Lupus than an haematologist.

My guess would be that positive results are indicative of 'something', especially if you have symptoms.

In light of the positive results, can you ask your GP to refer you to a rheumatologist?

Hopefully, someone from the lupus community will be able to offer more focused and informed advice.

Hello Foggyme....We seem to be popping up everywhere don t we. Where will it all end?

I am due to visit the very sarcastic and defensive haemo again next month and hopefully I will be discharged from his "care" then (his terminology not mine). I will most probably go and see my GP again then and see what he thinks.

Currently going through all the 'ologies'...progress slow but now have positive ANA test - very high - so some kind of autoimmune 'thingy' looks likely. Eventually!

Hi pugdogs10 ,

I would ask your GP for a referral to a rheumatologist so that you can be investigated further for autoimmune/lupus. Rheumatologists have more experience in diagnosing and treating autoimmune and connective tissue diseases so hopefully they can confirm the cause of your symptoms.
