its important when you use this stuff to take those calcium mine where adcel d3 for bone replacment, SO if you are not on these to you need them because predistone can make your bones weaker. exactly the same as smoking does.

The other thing i have found on the net is they are good for removing inflamation in the body they mimic a thing called cortisol in your body. So when you come of these you can get problems associated with your body has been relying on this tablet to produce cortisol so your system has to get used to the idea of starting to work for itself again.

Cortisol, is produced from cholesterol in the two adrenal glands located on top of each kidney. It is normally released in response to events and circumstances such as waking up in the morning, exercising, and stress. plays many roles in the body’s effort to carry out its normal duties throught the day.

So i have found when you get up in a morning do nothing make yoursel a brew and wait till your body starts to wake up. you start doing something streight away and your body is telling u hold on a min give me a chance to get started. (HAVE THIS FEELING IN A MORNING FOR 1ST HALF HR (RING A BELL)!!!!!!

Next i when to the american web sites something that a belive is my problem well one of them Their is a sensus on their of how many people on this pred had actual ruptured their patela ligament (thats the ligament that runs under the knee cap and stabalises the knee joint (their was quite a few on this site) (do google search) Another thing i have found is attachment points for ligaments to bones.

In No way am i trying to frighten people With this im just trying to make them aware of some of the searches i have found on this stuff. AND PEOPLE SHOULD BE TAKING SOME SORT OF BONE REPLACMENT (IF YOU ARE NOT IT COULD BE ONE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH ANY BONE PAIN due to not being given them.)

Hope this is of interest and food for thought if not on any bone replacment stuff or if you have stopped taking your pred and having problems on tapering down why this feeling in a morning to get going is a problem. i could go on for ages on this pred withdrawal and bone replacment regards john

A cautionary tale. I do indeed take calcium tablets, but did you know Prednisolone 5mg and 2.5mg is better on the tummy than Prednisone as it is sugar coated?

I forgot mine when on holiday abroad and had to go to the doctor for a prescription. She gave me Prednisone and when I queried this, she looked it up for the differences and came to the conclusion Prednisone is a lot cheaper and recommended by the government there. It seems we are not the only country where there are cuts to their health budget. She did change the prescription as I was paying for it anyway.

Hi

5mg Prednisolone for me used to be sugar coated however my doctor's have changed to the plain brand as they are cheaper. This may be the same for many on here.

It isn't "sugar-coated" - the outer coating is resistant to gastric acid so it passes through the stomach and is absorbed further down the gut. Prednisone is what is called a precursor to prednisolone - the liver processes prednisone to make prednisolone which is the active form the body can use.

As far as I know, enteric coated 5mg and 2.5mg prednisolone is only available in the UK. Every country has its list of approved medications, and the USA usually uses either prednisone or methyl prednisolone - pred with an added methyl group that is thought to make it more effective. But all 3 are basically the same: medium acting corticosteroids whose effect in the body lasts 12-36 hours. There are others that last longer, others that last longer. Pred and co are ideal to be taken as a single dose once a day - which makes it easier for patients.

There was a big difference in price between plain and enteric coated prednisolone - and the NHS directed the enteric coated should not be used unless essential. In the meantime the manufacturers put up the price of the cheaper one and now 30 tablets of plain pred cost about £1.31, 30 enteric coated £!.86. Since most patients need a "stomach protector" as well as plain pred (omeprazole for example, and it costs £1.86 a pack as well) using the plain stuff actually works out more expensive.
